Here at the Alum Ale House, we have a great love for local history. Much of our decor features pictures, documents, and articles relating to said local history. Amongst the decor, you can find artwork made by a local photographer and artist, Mick Ray. Mick has a deep passion for local history too, and has set up a Facebook group dedicated to the collection and archiving of old photos of South Shields. To honour this history, Mick has created hundreds of art pieces that blend these old archive photos with their modern day counterparts. These pieces are a brilliant showcase of how time has passed, and how things have changed in South Shields. It’s an honour and a privilege to be able to display his work at the Alum Ale House.
